This book is 14 short stories written by 14 authors each that describe a simple black and white picture. The pictures captivate me, open my view and widened my imagination once I looked at them. They seemed meaningful and genuinely provoked me to think about what happened to the characters in the picture. The stories were indeed amazing, imaginative and brilliant. The pictures and scenes that appeared in my head were vivid instead of plain black and white. The stories didn’t let me down because the events fit the pictures perfectly and were told wonderfully. I loved all the stories and all the characters because the stories made them seem viable and each of them had their own unique characteristics.Over 8 years agojoanne_s added a book review.

This book is about a Japanese girl named Summer who her parents went to Japan and had to spend time with her brother Jaz and their grandparents to harvest wheat to help pay the bills. In the story Summer met a lot of difficulties and problems with herself and with her grandparents, especially her grandmother. The story conveyed the meaning of love, and taught me lessons. The words in the story were simple yet meaningful, and I really love Summer because I love her characteristics and really like how she narrates in this story. This is an emotional and dazzling story.Over 8 years agojoanne_s has read this book.

This is a story about Kathleen Corrigan, nick named as Kit, who is a seventeen year old girl. Her mother died while giving birth to her, her brother and her sister who were triplets. They lived with their father and got a lot of help from their aunt Delia, who treated them as if they were her sons and daughters. Then, aunt Delia moved away and they didn’t know where she went from then on. Kit had a boyfriend named Billy, who gets angry and jealous with Kit and moves her away. He later enlisted in the army with Kit’s brother, Jamie. Kit later moved to New York City, being a showgirl/chorus girl and having barely enough to live. She met Nate Benedict, Billy’s father. He offered her clothes and an apartment that she didn’t have to pay. He told her that if she accepted what he offered, she would need to write to Billy, persuading him to return before he goes to the Korean War. She agreed after all because she still loved Billy and she needed an apartment. Nate Benedict gave her a hand to being a Lido doll and later asked her to do favors. While being at the apartment, the apartment revealed mysteries about the relationship between Nate Benedict and her aunt Delia. I really liked this character because she’s strong, beautiful and smart. This book contains mysteries, love, murder and surprises, and it is an astonishing book.Almost 9 years agojoanne_s has read this book.

This story is about an Indian teenager named Junior (also named) Arnold Spirit who met a lot of tragedies and obstacles. This book taught me an important lesson: “Life Is Not Perfect”. Some parts in the story were sad and some parts happened so sudden that I wished that I could make changes to it. Also, Junior in the story was really brave, braver than anyone I met before. If I was him, I would never go to that all-white school and I would never join the basketball team. Even if I transferred to the all-white school, I wouldn’t have the courage to meet my one and only friend Rowdy, and I wouldn’t have the guts to talk to my crush Penelope. His persistence determined me that everyone could cross the border and do the same thing that he did. This is a hilarious, sad and awe-inspiring story.Almost 9 years agojoanne_s added a book review.

“Shift” is a story about two best friends Chris and Win biking across the country, which Win disappeared in the journey. Jennifer Bradbury made the characters seem absolutely realistic and did a very great job on the development of Chris realizing the truth about his friend Win. I really liked this book because I can relate to Chris’s feelings and thoughts, and it seemed as if I was helping him put the pieces of the puzzle together by reading the book. I could say that “Shift” is one of the engrossing and captivating mysteries that I ever read.Almost 9 years ago
