  Detective Pikachu is a Pokémon movie, but in real life with animated characters. The story begins when detective Harry Goodman goes strangely missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Assist in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu; a hilariously wisecrack and coffee adict. Finding that they are able to communicate with each other, Tim and Pikachu join each other on a thrilling adventure to unravel the complex mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City - a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world - they encounter many Pokémon characters and discover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful area and threaten the entire Pokémon universe.
